Inlays/Onlays in a Day with CEREC!
Inlays and onlays are sometimes referred to as partial crowns. They are utilized when a tooth has extensive decay or breakage but there is still a sufficient healthy enamel portion of the tooth. An inlay or onlay is a like a puzzle piece that is fitted into the remaining portion of the tooth. They are in many cases preferable to a "filling" because they help increase the strength of the tooth instead of acting as a wedge that breaks the tooth apart.
An inlay is used when there is not damage to any of the cusps of your tooth and is essentially placed within these cusps. An onlay is used when there is slightly more extensive damage to the tooth structure. This type of restoration is placed over at least one of the cusps on the tooth.
Procedure
With our CEREC machine, inlays and onlays are now done in a single visit as opposed to the conventional two visits. See our "CEREC" tab for more information on the procedure involved in milling your custom restoration in a single visit.
